A massive police presence descended on downtown Vancouver Thursday night after a man was allegedly seen with a gun entering a residential building.
The Vancouver Police Department says that a patrolling officer was flagged down by someone in the area around 7 p.m., telling him they saw him enter the building near Seymour and Nelson streets with the weapon.

“We had credible information that he was armed with a gun. It became a bit of a protracted situation, we had to block off the area for public safety and for our officers. We brought in members of our Emergency Response Team, we had our drones up,” Sgt. Steve Addison told CityNews Friday.
“A call like this brings every available resource that we have,” he added.
The suspect was found around 9 p.m. in a taxi with a number of other people.
“He refused to surrender and did not comply with direction from the officers. A police dog and an ARWEN gun, which fires hard, plastic less-lethal bullets, were deployed during the arrest,” Addison shared.
The 30-year-old man was eventually arrested after police employed a police dog. “He was bitten by a dog, and was treated at hospital before being taken to jail,” Addison explained.
Addison says the suspect was on statutory release under Corrections Services Canada.
“He was released, had conditions that he had to abide by and there had been an active Canada-wide warrant since last month for his arrest for allegedly breaching those conditions,” Addison explained.
He remains in custody and is now facing additional charges for possession of a gun, police say.
