Man arrested, charged after people threatened with weapon in Surrey

Surrey police say a man is facing charges after allegedly threatening people with a weapon in the City Centre neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

The Surrey Police Service says it responded to calls about a man threatening bystanders just before 10:30 a.m.

Police say the suspect resisted arrest.

“Officers used a less-lethal impact weapon to gain compliance and were able to safely take the man into custody,” the SPS explained.

Since then, a 24-year-old man has been charged with resisting or obstructing peace officers in the lawful execution of their duty and
possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police say the suspect will remain in custody until a future court date is set.
