Spring has sprung: Metro Vancouver warming up into next week

Spring was officially ushered in at 2:01 a.m. Thursday morning, turning the page on winter and welcoming in longer and warmer days ahead.

While Thursday will continue to look grey and wet, 1130 NewsRadio meteorologist Carl Lam says Metro Vancouver will see some warmer days very soon.

“The trade-off here is that we have to deal with some pretty steady rain, especially for Sunday, but then we do have warmer temperatures as we go into next week,” he explained. “We could even hit the mid-double digits by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.”

“Certainly, more spring air is headed our way,” he said.

Lam says that aside from three weeks in February, the region’s winter temperatures were “pretty on target” in December and January, and the Lower Mainland is still hovering around average in March.

“We didn’t have any serious blasts of cold, and then once we got out of that deep freeze, things did start to moderate a bit across Metro Vancouver as we closed out February and went into the first part of March,” he explained.

At least for the next week, Lam thinks we’ll see some warmer temperatures.

“For the next seven days, we’re going to have some slightly warmer temperatures moving into Metro Vancouver, especially as we go into next week. That’s where you’re going to notice the temperatures really start to climb into the low to mid-double digits,” he added.
