North Vancouver RCMP seek witnesses to suspected unprovoked assault

Mounties in North Vancouver are looking for witnesses to an alleged unprovoked assault on a working traffic controller last week.

The North Vancouver RCMP says officers responded to the intersection of Marine Drive and Lloyd Avenue around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20.

“It’s alleged that a flagger, who was conducting their flagging work, was approached by a male who requested a lighter. When the flagger was unable to provide a lighter, the suspect allegedly assaulted the flagger,” police explained.

The victim was reportedly injured but did not require a trip to the hospital.

Police say a suspect was arrested nearby and has since been released, but an investigation is still underway.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam video is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file 25-5511.

Mounties say the suspect is due back in court on June 11.
