A workshop fire in Surrey this morning has forced three people from their home.
Callers to 1130 NewsRadio reported seeing a large plume of black smoke in the Guildford Town Centre area.
Surrey Fire Assistant Chief Greg McRobbie says crews were called to the area on 103rd Avenue near 140th Street around 10:30 a.m.
“When crews arrived, they found that it was a secondary building, which appeared to be a workshop in the backyard, fully involved. Crews made access with hose lines to the back and extinguished the fire from the exterior,” McRobbie said.
“They worked quickly to make sure there was no one inside, but due to some complications with the structure being unsafe, no one went in in the initial attack.”
He says the fire has since been extinguished and there were no injuries; however, the residents of the home will not be able to return until crews investigate the gas and electrical systems.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
