Driver arrested allegedly transporting dozens of kilograms of cannabis

Police say a Surrey man was arrested last month after his minivan was found loaded with 33,000 grams of cannabis at a road stop near Yale, B.C.

On April 14, the BC Highway Patrol says it conducted a road check on the van around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 1.

Mounties say an officer noticed 10 big storage containers and an “overpowering odour of green cannabis” coming from inside the vehicle while speaking with the lone driver.

A photo from the scene shows the bins, reportedly filled with 33 kilograms of cannabis, sitting next to a minivan.

“A federal licence is required to possess, store, or transport large quantities of cannabis. As the driver could not produce such a licence, he was arrested,” Insp. Lori Orstad explained.

BCHP says the 33-year-old man was known to police for similar offences.
