Surrey woman arrested after Tuesday night house fire

The Surrey Police Service says a woman has been taken into custody and is getting medical care after a house fire in north Surrey on Tuesday night.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton explains that around 8:45 p.m., an SPS officer noticed an “on-view house fire” at a fourplex along 132A Street and 108A Street.

“Surrey Fire Service was called and while a neighbour tried to extinguish the flames with a garden hose, SPS officers quickly evacuated several residents from adjacent residences,” Houghton said in a release on Wednesday.

As officers were searching the homes for residents and whilst speaking with witnesses, Houghton says police arrested a woman in connection with the fire.

“She is currently receiving medical care and the investigation is continuing,” police said.

Houghton adds that no injuries have been reported.
