If you’re hoping to crack open an alcoholic beverage this May long weekend, you can now do so at some beaches across Vancouver.
As of Thursday, those 19 and over are allowed to bring and drink alcohol at seven beaches between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., until Sept. 30.

- Spanish Banks
- Locarno Beach
- Second Beach (Stanley Park)
- Kitsilano Beach
- John Hendry/Trout Lake Beach
- New Brighton Beach
The City of Vancouver is reminding beach-goers of the hazards of bringing alcohol in glass containers, saying that in the case of it being broken, it can hurt you or others around you. “Bring cans, reusable and/or plastic or paper-based containers instead,” the city explained.

“Respect other beach users – be mindful of the personal space of others and keep music and noise to an appropriate volume. Properly dispose of trash in a nearby waste bin or take it away with you,” it added.
“Avoid entering the water with alcohol or if intoxicated.”
The alcohol on beaches program comes after the Park Board held a pilot program over the last two summers. However, it says the “ongoing success” of the program is “dependent on beachgoers being responsible and considerate of others.”
The Park Board says drinking alcohol is not allowed at any time at:
- English Bay Beach
- Sunset Beach Park
- Third Beach (Stanley Park)
- CRAB Park Beach
- Beaches along the Fraser River
