Lapu-Lapu Day festival attack suspect Kai-Ji Adam Lo made an appearance at a Vancouver provincial court Friday.
This comes after being previously ordered to undergo a mental health assessment to determine his fitness for trial.
Lo appeared virtually, wearing a stained dark grey and black sweater. He didn’t speak throughout the appearance and at times appeared to close his eyes.

In Friday’s appearance, the judge ordered a hearing to determine whether Lo is fit to stand trial.
Lo’s defence team requested the hearing, in light of a mental health assessment, and the crown agreed there are reasonable grounds that Lo is not fit to stand trial.
The upcoming hearing to determine if he is fit to stand trial will be scheduled in the coming months and is expected to last two days.
Advocacy group Filipino BC says witnesses, victims, and their families are still navigating the emotional aftermath of the tragedy, which has been described by officials as the “darkest day” in Vancouver’s history.
Filipino BC says tragedies such as floods and fires leave tangible results, but the attack was a “social disaster” with invisible effects on communities and their sense of safety, and with no clear perimeter.
