“Illegal” and “extremely dangerous” — that’s what BC Ferries is calling a video posted online showing a man riding a Sea-Doo underneath the stern of one of its vessels.
The video, posted to Instagram, shows the man almost touching the boat while riding the wake of the vessel.
In an email to 1130 NewsRadio, BC Ferries says it’s taking the video “seriously.”
“Regardless of the vessel involved, operating a personal watercraft that close to a ferry is extremely dangerous and puts both the rider and others at serious risk,” the ferry service said.

In a separate video posted to a different Instagram account in October 2024, the same man can be seen riding the wake of the same vessel further away from the hull.
BC Ferries says safety is its top priority, and is reminding all boaters and watercraft users to keep a safe distance and “follow marine navigation rules at all times.”
