Temporary changes coming to HWY 1 westbound from Abbotsford to Langley

Drivers heading west along Highway 1 from Abbotsford to Langley are about to see a slight change in their route.

Starting in about a week or so, traffic will be diverted off the usual westbound lanes at Mount Lehman onto the newly paved-over median and then back onto Highway 1 near 264th.

Alex Carrigan in the 1130 NewsRadio Traffic Centre says this diversion will cause some bottlenecks.

“This is going to be a big slowdown for a lot of drivers through this area of Metro Vancouver,” Carrigan said.

“It is already a slow go through most of the morning rush, and of course, through the eastbound rush, this is only going to add to the slowdowns until this work is completed.”

The diversion will be in place for about a month.

In mid-September, traffic on eastbound Highway 1 along the same stretch will be diverted to the median.
