“An approaching low-pressure centre will track across the south coast this afternoon. In its wake, strong southwesterly winds 50 kilometres per hour gusting to 80 will develop late this afternoon through early this evening. Winds will gradually ease late this evening,” the agency said.
It warns that power outages may occur, and residents should beware of falling debris.
On Wednesday, BC Hydro managed to restore power to roughly 120,000 customers in the Lower Mainland, following major overnight storms. As of Thursday morning, the utility says fewer than 1,000 customers are without power in the region.
Also on Wednesday, the City of Abbotsford downgraded the last 11 properties under evacuation order to an evacuation alert.
The city also lifted evacuation alerts for 474 Sumas Prairie properties. Some road closures remain in place.
B.C.’s south coast was slammed by a series of atmospheric rivers beginning Dec. 10, leading to evacuation alerts and orders for many properties in the Fraser Valley due to flooding.
