Anxiety levels high as quake coverage continues

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It might be time to turn off the TV.  If you’ve been feeling a little anxious since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, you’re not alone.

Dr. Lawrence Miller says it has heightened awareness many are experiencing because of the extensive media coverage.

He adds shaking from thunder or from a big truck driving by your building may trigger an “Oh my goodness” sensation.

“It will tend to be higher in people that are anxious in general to start with.  More precisely people who have lived through earthquakes before may be more sensitive about that.”

Miller explains parents should monitor how much their children are exposed to and everyone should take some time to tell themselves there is no sense in worrying about something they can’t control.
