VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A staff member working in a long-term care center in the Lower Mainland has a confirmed case of COVID-19.
Authorities with the Arbutus Care Center in Vancouver confirmed Saturday a staff member has tested positive for the virus on Friday and is in self-isolation at home.
The center says they are now working with public health officials to clean the facility but there is no word if others at the facility had contact with the person infected.
“As was already in practice, all residents are monitored closely for symptoms, and all staff are screened at the beginning and end of their shifts,” the release reads.
“Staff providing care for residents in isolation wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes a mask, eye protection, gloves, and gown. All staff are required to wear a surgical mask and eye protection in the residence at all times.”

However, all residents at the center are now going to have their meals served to them in their rooms as a result of the positive test.
“We continue to do enhanced cleaning at Arbutus Care Centre, cleaning high touch surfaces like handrails and doors, resident rooms, common areas, and staff rooms more frequently,” the release adds. “We will focus on providing one-on-one activities to maintain social engagement.”
