Kraft unveils Valentine’s Day mac ‘n’ cheese, social media responds

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Kraft Dinner is at it again.

Hot on the heels of its Pumpkin Spice KD stunt this past Halloween, the brand is stirring up controversy on social media for its latest holiday-themed food item: Valentine’s Day mac ‘n’ cheese.

The company announced Wednesday it’s launching a limited-edition Candy KD for what it says “might be the cheesiest day of the year.”

The Valentine’s Day special features “hints of sweet, sweet candy” with the cheesy taste KD is already known for.

“This twist on the beloved classic will have Canadians from coast-to-coast whispering ‘let’s mac out,'” the company says in a statement.

As part of Kraft’s launch, Canadians will also have a chance to win a box of Candy KD. The package, a candy-style box shaped like a heart, will include KD Original, a Candy KD Boost Pack, and a fork.

Kraft warns it could turn Candy KD into a permanent item if it receives enough support.

However, not everyone is keen on the idea. Social media has been buzzing with responses to Candy KD, with some even describing it as “raw ground beef.”

“Time to start humanity over again from scratch,” one person writes.

Others are blunt, saying no one asked for this, while others have reacted with a simple, “No.”

Of course, there are also many who are eager to try the limited edition mac and cheese.

People have been posting their poems on social media as part of Kraft’s giveaway, one person even writing, “This new #CandyKD looks pasta-tively awesome! So call me cheesy but I melt when i’m (sic) in your warm embrace.”

Candy KD will be available until Feb. 14.
