Homicide investigators have been called to North Vancouver after a shooting Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a busy Superstore.
Mounties say they found one man with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene on Seymour Boulevard around 2:45 p.m. First responders were unable to revive the victim, and he died before he could be transported to the hospital.
“It’s absolutely unacceptable to put the public at risk in this way,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries.
“This happened in the middle of the afternoon in broad daylight in a parking lot of a very busy grocery store. It’s shocking and it’s upsetting for the people who live in this community and it’s upsetting for the residents who live in North Vancouver. We share their outrage at this obvious and clear disregard for the safety of other people.”
Sources are telling me the victim is a gang member, well known in the Lower Mainland. We are expecting another update on this file this weekend. https://t.co/XCDwY2zvDC

Although it is early in the investigation, Mounties say this does not appear random.
“At this point, we’re not calling it a targeted hit,” DeVries continued.
No arrests have been made, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken command of the case. DeVries said the RCMP are dedicating a lot of resources to the investigation.
“We want the public to know that North Vancouver remains a safe place and this does not appear to be a random act, and we have a great deal of resources devoted to these types of crimes. We will be actively and aggressively pursuing this investigation to, hopefully, at some point bring an end entirely to this kind of violence in the community.”

We are responding to a shooting in the parking lot of the Superstore on Seymour Blvd. Please avoid the area if possible. North Shore motorists can expect traffic delays, particularly on the 2nd Narrows/Ironworkers Bridge southbound and its feeder routes. Updates to follow.

One witness told CityNews they saw bullet holes in a car door, and a heavy police presence immediately after the shooting.
“There’s probably 20 cop cars, forensics, an ambulance, they have their helicopter up in the air, it’s all taped off with yellow tape,” the man said.
“I was going just going for a walk and I ran into somebody and they said that they heard seven or eight pops go off outside of the parking lot. Then there was just a massive commotion.”
