An Abbotsford apartment building was evacuated Tuesday after a fire broke out that morning on Cardinal Avenue near Mt Lehman Road.
Fire crews were called to the building near the Abbotsford Auto Mall at around 6 a.m., as flames could be seen from several blocks away.
It’s believed everyone got out without physical injuries.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the three-alarm fire.
There’s no word on how the fire may have started, though fire officials say the blaze was on the roof.
“On the emergency social services side … we’re going to have a fair amount of folks displaced,” said Abbotsford Fire Chief Darren Lee.
Lee believes at least 60 units are affected, “and then the businesses on the west side were evacuated as well, at the onset of the fire.”
A reception centre is set up at Northview Church at 3240 Downs Road.
“We’re asking residents here, residents that might be out of town, residents that might be at work, to please go to Northview Church, register with ESS and that will get the Emergency Support Services process started,” Lee said.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area as first responders remain on scene.
