Vancouver pedestrian dies in city’s 9th fatality of the year

A woman has died after being struck by a driver in vehicle Monday evening on the Downtown Eastside.
According to Vancouver police, a sedan was travelling east along Powell Street just after 7:30 p.m. when the woman was hit while she was crossing near Gore Avenue.
The victim was taken to the hospital, however, police say she later died.

The woman’s death is the ninth pedestrian killed in Vancouver since the beginning of the year.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene of the incident, and is helping with the investigation. Police do not believe alcohol nor speed were factors in the death.
VPD is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, to contact investigators at 604-717-3012.
