Police in Vancouver have identified the victim of a Chinatown stabbing that left one man dead on Monday morning.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says 32-year-old Nikolai Sugak was found gravely injured near West Pender Street and Carral Street just after midnight on Feb. 6.

Police say investigators believe he was stabbed on Shanghai Alley.

“We are still working to determine if there was a motive for this murder,” Const. Tania Visintin said in a news release.

Police are still looking for a suspect, and are asking potential witnesses to reach out.

“This is a neighbourhood that sees a lot of vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic at all hours of the day, and we believe there may be witnesses or people with dash-cams who have important information that could help us solve this crime,” Visintin said.

“Our homicide investigators have collected important evidence, and while we now have a better understanding of what took place, we still need anyone with information to come forward.”

The VPD is asking anyone with information to call the police at 604-717-2500.
