Strong winds that could cause damage are expected to hit Metro Vancouver Monday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The weather service issued a wind warning from Monday afternoon through to Monday evening.
The warning is in effect for the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver. Areas in Surrey and Langley will also be affected, and those in Richmond and Delta.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches,” the statement read.
Environment Canada says peak winds are expected late Monday afternoon and will ease as the night goes on.
CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the winds won’t really die-down until closer to midnight or at least late late evening.
“Expecting those winds to pick up early afternoon but really ramp up into the evening six, 7 p.m., and then not taper off until close to midnight.
“We could see gusts along the water … 60 to 90 kilometers per hour and even inland sections of Metro Vancouver will be in the 50 to 70 kilometre per hour range,” he explained.
