DoorDash suspends delivery on B.C.’s South Coast due to snow

Your plans to order in and cozy up on a snow day may have to change, as DoorDash says it will be suspending operations Saturday evening for parts of B.C.’s South Coast.

In a release, the food delivery service says it has activated its “Severe Weather Protocol,” and deliveries will be suspended for the majority of Metro Vancouver.

The following areas affected are Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, Delta, Maple Ridge, White Rock, Langley, and Abbotsford.

The suspension also includes Mission, Squamish, Nanaimo, Lady Smith, Duncan, Victoria, Port Alberni, Courtenay, Powell River, and Campbell River.

It says the suspension is a precautionary measure for the incoming winter storm that’s forecasted for the region.

“The safety of our community is our top priority,” said DoorDash’s Julian Crowley in a release.

“To keep our Dashers safe, DoorDash is activating its Severe Weather Protocol and temporarily suspending our delivery operations across Vancouver.”

But the service disruption could be even longer, as it says it will be suspended “at least” until Sunday morning, but it will be keeping an eye on the weather conditions and heeding the guidance of local authorities before it re-opens.

Some online are touting the wisdom of the plan, while others are voicing their frustrations at not having access to the service.

“I don’t know how bad it’s really going to be, but I support the move to make people a bit more self reliant and not imagining they can just fall back on other people to deliver whatever they fancy. It’s going to be above zero by Sunday morning,” one Twitter user commented.
