IHIT called in after person found dead in Surrey

The Surrey RCMP says it has called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) after a person was found dead in an alley Wednesday evening.

Police say the body was found in the area of 103A Avenue and Old Yale Road in the Surrey neighbourhood of Whalley at about 5 p.m.

The BC Coroners Service and with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) are working to determine the cause of death, police say.

“At this time, it is believed criminality is a factor, therefore the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been deployed and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit,” the Mounties said in a statement.

Police have not disclosed any information regarding the identity of the victim.

Mounties say police officers are canvassing the area, and are urging anyone with information regarding the death to call the IHIT information line 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
