April New Westminster SkyTrain stabbing: third suspect charged

According to the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), two “youth suspects” were arrested earlier in June — and have since had charges approved “relating to aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and robbery.”

Police say they have now arrested and charged Jorell Brertton of Delta with assault in connection with the stabbing, adding he is the third and final suspect involved.

“This arrest highlights our commitment to seeing those responsible brought to justice,” said Sgt Andrew Leaver in a statement issued Friday afternoon.

“The successful partnership between our Major Crime Unit and members of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police has now seen charges laid against all three suspects in this investigation.”

The NWPD says Brertton is in police custody on an unrelated matter, while one of the two youths is also in custody, the other having been released.

Police say while charges have now been laid on all three suspects in the April stabbing, the investigation is still ongoing.
