Investigators are still working to figure out what caused a tent fire that left one person dead in Vancouver on Christmas Day.
Firefighters were called to a stretch of Waterfront Road near Canada Place Monday around 9 a.m. to find the tent in flames, with one person still inside.
Fire information officer Matt Trudeau says, at this point, it’s believed the fire may have been cooking-related, based on items found at the scene.
“But we’re still looking into other potential factors to determine something conclusive,” he told CityNews Wednesday.
Trudeau admits there are many questions that remain unanswered at this point, including whether the person was awake or asleep when the fire broke out.
“Toxicology will be helpful in some of that,” he added.
The victim has not been identified.
Vancouver police have said they don’t believe criminality was involved.
