The Sunshine Coast BC SPCA is spreading the word about a young kitten that needs a new family after losing an eye.
The society says the ten-week-old ginger cat was recently given up after a dog attack left it needing surgery.
Marika Donnelly, a manager at the community animal centre in Sechelt, tells 1130 NewsRadio she’s confident the kitten will have a good life.
“He’s been recovering in a foster home, doing great, expected to make a full recovery, just going to be missing an eye,” said Donnelly.
She says staff have given the ginger kitten the iconic name Mike Wazowski — after the one-eyed character in the Monsters Inc. film franchise.

Donnelly says the Sunshine Coast BC SPCA has no trouble attracting adopters, adding that Mike still deserves special attention.
“We do quite well with adoptions over here, we get a lot of people willing to travel to us from the Lower Mainland and from Vancouver Island in the Interior.”
She says Mike’s next owner will be a lucky person.
“He is super social. he will lead a totally full life, just missing one eye, and you know, should bring somebody a ton of joy.”
Mike is recovering from surgery in a foster home and should be up for adoption soon, Donnelly says.
