Purdy’s employees enter Canada Sings

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Staff at Purdy’s Chocolates in Vancouver may not be able to cure MS, but they will give it their best shot.

They call themselves ‘Sweet Day Glee Club’, and they will be singing their hearts out for the reality show Canada Sings.

The six-part series rewards $25,000 to winners who must then donate the windfall for a charity.

“I decided that I would jump on the opportunity. It’s a once-in-a- lifetime chance to make a difference. I have close ties to the MS Society, as my wife has MS,” explains Kevin Williams, who normally works on the IT side of things for the company but now heads up the mini-choir.

The group consists of 11 singers who were of questionable talent.  “We are going to be honest with you. You guys, individually, aren’t the strongest singers,” was the assessment given to them by their vocal coach.

“But when we came together as a team, and when we found our ranges, something magical happened. We did 100 per cent better than we would have individually,” says Williams.

The company has already decided that regardless of the outcome, it will still donate $10,000 to the charity.

And what will they sing? Williams wasn’t saying, but did hint it will be a mash up of three songs involving chocolate.
