LITTLETON, Colorado (NEWS1130) – The suspect is dead after two students were hit in a school shooting at Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado.
Two students were shot, one of whom is in serious condition. The other is also hospitalized with a minor gunshot wound.
Authorities say they have found a possible Molotov cocktail at the scene of a school shooting in Colorado.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Friday that investigators are examining the device.
“While we were securing the school and ensuring the safety of the students and staff in that school, we located what we believe to be the suspect and the active shooter. That individual is deceased. He apparently killed himself,” says Robinson.
The sheriff says the shooter was armed with a shotgun and looking for a teacher he identified by name when he approached the school.
Robinson says the teacher immediately left the school when he learned the student was looking for him.
This is the same community rocked by the Columbine High School shootings in 1999.
Today’s violence comes almost a year to the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. Today’s attack is also not far from the Aurora Theatre where a man opened fire on an audience watching a new Batman movie.
