Leonard Nimoy dead at age 83

LOS ANGELES (NEWS1130) – His iconic character told us all to “live long and prosper.”

This morning, actor Leonard Nimoy, best known as “Mr. Spock” on Star Trek, passed away.

Nimoy was 83 years old and was in the final stages of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD). It only last year he announced he had the disease, which he blamed on years of smoking.

Although Nimoy followed his 1966-69 “Star Trek” run with a notable career as both an actor and director, in the public’s mind he would always be Spock.

His half-human, half-Vulcan character was the calm counterpoint to William Shatner’s often-emotional Captain Kirk on one of television and film’s most revered cult series.
