VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – It was 25 years ago today when four-year-old Michael Dunahee vanished without a trace from a Victoria playground, even though his parents were just steps away.
The youngster disappeared on March 24th, 1991, sparking one of the largest police investigations in Canadian history.
The Dunahee family was on the way to a field for a football game when Michael asked to go to the nearby playground where there were other kids.
Michael went while his parents unloaded the car. His father was supposed to go supervise him, but less than two minutes later, they turned around and he was gone.
Crystal Dunahee, Michael’s mother, says she and her family will never give up hope.
Tips about his possible whereabouts continue to trickle in and despite the fact there have been some very strong leads. Michael would be 29 today.
Victoria Police say officers are hopeful they will eventually receive the one tip that brings closure to the Dunahee family.
The case is open and the investigation is still active.
