Search ramps up for missing mother who may have postpartum depression

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Members of North Shore Rescue are in Stanley Park today to look for Florence Leung, a 32-year-old woman from New Westminster who hasn’t been seen since Tuesday.

Team Leader Mike Danks says they’ll be paying special attention to the area around Prospect Point. “This is a spot that Florence felt at peace and she really like to enjoy the view and given her vehicle was parked very close to there, that’s going to be our main focus point.”

Danks says they were out last night too but couldn’t find any sign of Leung. “You can go from very, very dense brush to quite open. We’re going to leave all the open stuff for the public and for her family to search and we’ll keep all the challenging stuff for our searchers. We’re going to put in a full day today and hopefully we can turn up some sort of clue, indication or — ideally — find her,” explains Danks, who adds it’s common for crews to be brought in for calls like this even though it’s not on the North Shore.

Police say she was last seen leaving her home on London Street at 9:45 a.m. She drove off in a white Audi Q5. “We’ve been made aware that she may be experiencing postpartum depression and we’re concerned for her well-being,” says Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We’re actively investigating locations where she may be, and are following up on all possible leads, so that we can safely locate her.”

Leung gave birth to a child two months ago.

Anyone with information about her is asked to call 911.
