No sign of missing hikers at Shannon Falls

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – After hours of searching, a massive search and rescue outlets haven’t been able to find any trace of a trio of missing hikers at Shannon Falls.

Squamish Mounties say they got a call shortly before noon warning of a group of hikers who had decided to take a dip in one of the pools at the top of the falls, but then slipped, falling 30 metres into another pool.

Crews from Squamish Search and Rescue, North Shore Rescue, Lions Bay Rescue, BC Ambulance, Squamish Fire, TEAAM, BC Parks, and Squamish RCMP have been looking for the missing hikers for the vast majority of the day, prompting some trails at the park to be closed to the public as they comb the area.

“As of 6:00 p.m. tonight we have been unable to visually seen anyone in the pool system, but the terrain is difficult, very dangerous, and the water flow is heavy which is complicating the search,” says Corporal Sascha Banks in a release.

The search for the hikers will continue tomorrow when additional crews can be called in. RCMP is contacting the families of the missing people, but aren’t releasing their names.
