BC Ferries bracing for a busy long weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You should leave early and plan ahead, if you’re taking a BC ferry this long weekend.

The corporation’s Astrid Braunschmidt says over Easter, they’re adding almost 90 extra sailings.

“The extra sailings are for the routes that link Metro Vancouver with Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.”

She says this weekend is one of the busiest of the year for BC Ferries. “It varies from year to year, depending on whether or not the Easter weekend falls within school spring break. So, it’s hard to specifically say which one is the busiest weekend of the year, but this is certainly one of the most popular ones for us.”

A long weekend also means an uptick in the number of reservations.

“It’s tough to tell exactly how many people make reservations, especially on the Easter long weekend. But what we do know is that our customers are concerned about travel certainty. So, we do see reservations for people who are wanting to guarantee the sailing of their choice.”
