Missing dog found after Vancouver family conducts exhaustive search

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a happy ending to a story of a missing dog in Vancouver, whose family has tirelessly been searching for her since the weekend.

Sami, a two-year-old Shepherd-Rhodesian Ridgeback cross, ran off on Friday while under the care of a dog sitter hired through an app.

“After a long stakeout yesterday…we went home dejected, leaving her bed behind,” Shannon Lercher wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning. “Got a call this morning she was sleeping in it! We’ve got our girl back.”

Social media posts asking for help finding the four-legged family member had been shared a number of times before the dog was finally found safe on Tuesday.

A then-tearful Lercher told NEWS 1130 on Monday that her family had hardly slept since finding out Sami had gotten lost, and claimed the sitter they hired was neglectful.

Lercher believes Sami was let outside offleash — despite instructions not to — and then ran away within two hours of being dropped off. She says the sitter — whose Rover profile has been suspended by the company — has refused to provide any details about what happened.
