Grouse Grind, other North Shore trails closed due to icy conditions

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Some North Shore trails, including the Grouse Grind, were closed on Monday because of icy conditions.
Metro Vancouver was forced to close Mother Nature’s stairmaster out of safety concerns.
The BC Mountaineering Club trail remains open, however, hikers are being reminded to use proper footwear, preferably boots with microspikes, if they plan to head out.
The steep trail starts at an elevation of 300 metres and climbs to 1,100 metres over a 2.5 kilometre stretch.
Lynn Headwaters closure
In addition to the Grind, the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park backcountry has also been closed, with snow and slippery conditions, heavy rainfall, rock and icefall, as well as limited visibility due to fog and/or snow listed as some of the reasons behind the decision.

The cold blast broke a handful of records this past weekend.
Meteorologist Russ Lacate says despite the cool start to the week, temperatures return to normal for the remainder of this week starting Tuesday.
