Stanley Park Ecology Society getting a boost to help keep greenspace healthy

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – In advance of Earth Day on Thursday, the Stanley Park Ecology Society has announced a new partnership that will help it keep the renowned greenspace healthy for decades to come.

The Cornerstone Parks initiative comes with national funding, which Jeannine Johnstone with the society says will allow them to clear invasive species like English Ivy, and plant hundreds of native trees and shrubs over the next year.

“The pandemic, it’s a really great example of wanting to have these greenspaces in order to be able to escape from everyday life. For a lot of people, mental health is really bolstered by being able to get out and see these native greenspaces,” she said.
