LYTTON (NEWS 1130) — The B.C. Girl Guides have stepped up to the plate to help those who have had to evacuate from Lytton, after a wildfire ravaged the village on Wednesday.
Girl Guides spokesperson Diamond Isinger says donations of water, games, and food have been taken to the Emergency Operations Center in Spences Bridge, northwest of Lytton.
“Our members were able to collect some items that they felt would be of most need at this time. And that included 47 cases of water, some colouring books, and card games for kids, who are being evacuated,” Isinger notes.
Isinger says the organization often “springs” into action when emergencies occur around the province.
Girl Guides are taking action during the #bcwildfire emergency to support evacuees & first responders. We brought a car of donations today to Spences Bridge Emergency Operations Centre, including 47 cases of water, books/games to entertain kids, & (of course!) “We have a lot of Girl Guide groups all across the province and pretty much every community, or at least every area. And so when we see these things happening we’re very keen to support our neighbours.”
But the donation from the Girl Guides would not be complete without one thing — Girl Guide Cookies.
“We found a few final boxes of Girl Guide Cookies in the Kamloops area, that we were able to have delivered. It’s obviously a very unusual year for the sale of Girl Guide Cookies but we know that they’re iconic and much loved treats, so we thought we would toss them into the mix.”
