B.C. wines dominate in Canadian championships’ top categories

VANCOUVER (NEWS 113) – B.C. is once again being recognized for its award-winning wines, this time on a national level.

Those produced in this province have dominated at the All Canadian Wine Championships, with B.C. wineries taking home four of the top prizes.

There were 1,365 wines submitted into the competition, all vying for one of 50 awards.

Dark Horse Vineyard’s 2016 Red Meritage was named the Best Red Wine of the Year, while the Best White Wine of the Year went to Wild Goose Vineyard’s 2020 Gewürztraminer.

Gray Monk Estate Winery’s Odyssey Rose Brut was honoured with the title of Best Sparkling Wine of the Year.

Meanwhile, Forbidden Fruit Winery took home the title of Best Fruit Wine of the Year for its Flaunt Organic Sparkling Plum.

In total, B.C. wineries won 202 awards.

Ontario’s Peller Estates Winery was also a trophy winner, taking home the Best Dessert Wine of the Year title for its 2019 Andrew Peller Signature Series Riesling Icewine.
