VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Vancity is giving their employees a day off as a token of appreciation for their hard work throughout the pandemic.
On Tuesday, July 20, all community branches will be closed so that employees can reset and recharge.
Christine Bergeron, president and CEO of Vancity, says along with the day off, they try to ensure all employees have access to mental health supports as well.
As a commitment to our employees' mental health, we're taking Tuesday, July 20 off. Online, mobile & telephone banking will be available. And don't worry! All our frontline employees who will be working will have another day off of their choosing. https://t.co/I5AtOEBxxA pic.twitter.com/QX6lfRG4Wq

“It really just has been such an unusual year and a really incredibly challenging one. Our teams have been giving back, and working so hard for our members, and to help community, and so [it’s] a small token really, but we really wanted to show our appreciation.”

The financial co-operative headquartered in Vancouver employs over 2,600 people.
Bergeron says staff have gone above and beyond for customers without much downtime.
“So on Tuesday we’ll be giving them a day off. Of course, because we do serve members, we will have some team members working, and we’ll ensure that those team members will get a different day off.”
She says Vancity is also trying to promote work-life balance while giving their staff a day off.
“You know we really recognize that meeting the growing demand for our services has been challenging, and our staff has really gone above and beyond for our members.”
While Bergeron says it’s a bit too soon to tell if this will be annual occurrence, she adds that services online will operate as normal.
