Teen in New Westminster arrested after high school assault leads to student hospitalized

An arrest has been made after a student was assaulted with a “blunt force weapon” outside a New Westminster high school Wednesday.

Police responded to reports of a fight at New Westminster Secondary School. The 16-year-old student assaulted was transported to hospital for his injuries which included a broken arm, some significant cuts on his head and a suspected concussion.

An 18-year-old has been arrested. Police are working with the teen to determine what lead to the assault.

Police believe this was not random and that the two knew each other.

“This is a very disturbing incident,” Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said. “Schools are supposed to be places where students feel safe.”
