Vancouver ranked 69th best city in world, 4th in Canada

The latest ranking of world cities is out, but housing prices in Vancouver continue to play a role when it comes to where it stands in the top 100.

Vancouver has been named the 69th best city in the world by Resonance Consultancy, which describes the metropolis as “the most Asian city outside of Asia is as smart as it is gorgeous. Too bad about the price of entry.”

The firm notes the city didn’t appear higher in the rankings because of housing costs.

In Canada, Vancouver was fourth-ranked, behind Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary, but ahead of Ottawa.

“The global infatuation is obvious: safe, smart (the University of British Columbia ranks #18 globally), and socially minded (Income Equality ranks #20), Vancouver’s special blend is sprinkled across some of the planet’s most exquisite urban topography.

“You can leave the downtown office via public transit and be bombing down a ski or mountain bike run an hour or so later. And because nowhere is perfect, that geography is courtesy of massive seismic activity that has spared paradise so far,” the report says.

The consultancy firm says its study identifies cities that are “most desirable for locals, visitors, and business people” rather than focusing on looking at livability or tourism appeal.

Topping the rankings was London, England, with Paris, New York City, Tokyo, and Dubai rounding out the top five.
