Indigo experiences cybersecurity issue impacting website and payments

Canadian bookstore chain Indigo, Chapters, and Coles was hit with a company-wide cybersecurity incident Wednesday.

The company released two updates on their social media, with the latter explaining their current situation to customers.

“We experienced a cybersecurity incident earlier today and are working with third-party experts to investigate and resolve the situation. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may create for our valuable customers.

Our hope is to have our systems back online as soon as possible. In the interim, our website will remain unavailable. At this time, we look forward to welcoming customers in our stores for cash transactions; we are temporarily unable to process electronic payments, or to accept gift cards or returns. We appreciate your patience as we work hard to resolve this issue.
We commit to updating our customers as more information becomes available,” the company said over social media.

As of Wednesday evening, customers can only purchase products in-store with cash, with the company’s website only showing the updated statement.

One Facebook user detailed their experience going to a local Indigo Wednesday.

“I was surprised to find my local Indigo open. The staff were very helpful despite the circumstances. Had my order written up on a piece of paper and calculated with a calculator which was a strange experience seeing as everything is so technological nowadays. Hopefully it gets rectified soon!” said the customer in a comment.

The company says it will provide further updates to customers as it becomes available.
