The replacement process on a much-maligned overpass in Langley that has seen its share of trucks crashing into it is set to begin next week.
The province is beginning its work on the Glover Road overpass, which connects the south side of Langley to Fort Langley, on March 13.
In a statement, the province says the Highway 1 overpass will be closed to all traffic Monday, and detours will be in effect.
Along with vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will also be detoured between University Drive and Telegraph Trail.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is urging commuters to use 216th Street while construction is underway.
“The replacement of the Glover Road crossing is a key component of the Province’s Highway 1 216th to 264th Widening Project, which will help relieve congestion for drivers and accommodate more sustainable transportation options for all travellers,” the ministry said.

Slated to be completed in 2024, the new Glover Road crossing will include cycling and pedestrian pathways on either side, each three metres wide, while the crossing itself will be raised to improve Highway 1 safety.
The current Glover Road crossing has been struck by over-size trucks previously, causing massive delays to Highway 1, and structural damage to the overpass itself.
