The B.C. government says two apartment buildings in Cloverdale are being re-developed to create more affordable rental units for low-income seniors.
The Ministry of Housing says the new Zappone Manor, located in the area of 60 Avenue and 176A Street, will add an additional 39 units to the area.
“The new five-storey building will have 89 units, which will be a mix of studio and one-bedroom homes,” a release reads.
“This new project will help ensure a supply of quality, affordable homes for seniors in Cloverdale so they aren’t forced to move away from the community they call home,” Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon added.

Mike Garisto, the president and chief operating officer of Columbus Homes, says the new partnership between the province, Columbus Homes, and the Senior Citizens Housing of South Surrey Society, will help get the building up and running.
“Thanks to the province’s support, we can move forward with this much-needed housing for our seniors and some of our low-income-earning senior women in the community,” Garisto said.
Construction for Zappone Manor is set to start in the fall and is part of B.C.’s 10-year housing plan.
“The construction of these new homes helps ensure a supply of quality, affordable homes for seniors in Cloverdale so they can continue to afford to live here in our community. I firmly believe this project will set the standard for similar housing projects in the Surrey-Cloverdale area,” Mike Starchuk, the MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale, said.
