Maple Ridge homicide; 2 arrested in connection with man’s death

Homicide investigators say two people from Maple Ridge have been arrested and are facing second-degree murder charges after a homicide in March.

This comes after the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to investigate after the body of a man was found in a parking lot. His death was later deemed suspicious, and the victim was identified as 55-year-old Surinderjit Singh.

IHIT says 33-year-old Kimberley Buitenweg and 44-year-old Joseph McWilliams were arrested on Friday and are facing charges of second-degree murder.

“We are asking that anyone who had recent contact with either Buitenweg or McWilliams, please contact IHIT immediately as we continue to investigate,” Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said.

“This was a complex investigation and we’re thankful for the hard work and dedication of the Ridge Meadows RCMP.”
