Two dogs found in Prince George with porcupine quills in their faces

The BC SPCA says two huskies were found injured and abandoned in Prince George with porcupine quills in their faces.

The animal care service says one-year-old sisters Asha and Saki were left tied to a picnic table with quills “lodged in their faces” outside of the North Cariboo Community Animal Centre

“Sometime during the night, the two dogs were tied to the picnic table in front of the animal centre, just outside of the range of our security camera,” the centre’s manager Kristen Sumner explained.

“When staff arrived at 7 a.m., the fearful dogs began to cry and cower by the table. As staff got closer to the dogs, they noticed the quills sticking out of their mouths and knew they needed to rush Asha and Saki to the emergency vet clinic for treatment.”

In a release, Sumner says one of the dogs chewed herself free at some point but didn’t leave her sister’s side. She says Asha and Saki’s faces were full of wounds, and the SPCA had to sedate the two of them in order to remove the quills and treat the area.

Sumner notes that both sisters will require vaccines, deworming, and a spaying operation in addition to the treatment and major ear cleaning they’ve already received.

Once they make a full recovery, the two sisters will be available for adoption.

“Asha and Saki are such sweet girls. We believe they are sisters based on their appearance and their age. Even though they were abandoned and experienced so much pain from the quills, they greet people with wiggling butts. They cannot wait to see you and say hello.”
