Langley fire forces evacuation of nearby townhome

A townhouse in Langley was evacuated early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out at a nearby forestry products company.

Fire crews say they were called at around 1 a.m. to the fire along Old Yale Road just off the Fraser Highway.

“They found heavy fire loads on the front of the structure and called for a second alarm immediately,” Kevin Snowdon, Langley Township’s assistant fire chief, said.

He explains a gas line also ruptured during the fire.

“The gas line was a result of the fire, and we do not have any idea of the cause at this time,” he told CityNews.

A neighbouring townhome had to be evacuated as the side of the building was damaged due to the heat from the flames, Snowdon explains.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
