The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) says a coyote was put down in Mission on Wednesday morning.
The City of Mission released a report warning locals about “aggressive coyotes” in the Fraser Corridor area the same morning. The warning came in response to several recent coyote attacks — one of which left six people injured.

Conservation officers say the coyote was found and put down at 5 a.m. in response to three workers being bitten in the area. BCCOS says the coyote matched photos and descriptions from witnesses, and says it “was put down to ensure public safety.”
“Conservation Officers believe it is likely aggressive coyotes remain in the area, and the public is asked to continue taking precautions in case of wildlife encounters,” conservation officers stated in a Facebook post.

In the last week, nine people have been bitten by coyotes in Mission, and the city’s warning says this kind of behavior isn’t typical of local coyotes. The statement says this activity could be attributed to animals being fed by people.
“Urban environments offer many potential attractants, including garbage, small pets and pet food, livestock, fruit, berries, compost, bird seed, and rodents. The City of Mission and the COS cannot stress enough the importance of not feeding coyotes and ensure that all attractants are secured,” it said.
The BCCOS says unlawful feeding of dangerous wildlife and coyote conflicts can be reported to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
