Destructive West Kelowna-area wildfire now ‘held’: BCWS

The massive wildfire that destroyed hundreds of homes in the Okanagan region is now classified as “held,” according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The McDougall Creek wildfire, which was burning out of control for weeks, was updated to held Thursday morning.
The wildfire service explains that while the wildfire is still “of note,” it is not likely to spread “beyond predetermined boundaries under current conditions.”

The wildfire was first spotted on Aug. 15, and grew significantly the following weekend, spreading and jumping across Okanagan Lake to the east.
As of Thursday, the fire is estimated to be 13,970 hectares in size.
An estimated 198 properties have been destroyed by the McDougall Creek fire.
