Heavy rain creates chaos across Metro Vancouver roads

Wednesday morning’s commute turned chaotic across Metro Vancouver, as an atmospheric river pelts the region with heavy rain.

Many major highways are backing up as incidents snarled traffic.

In North Vancouver, a crash on the Upper Levels highway heading east just after the Capilano Road exit had the right lane closed. Traffic is still backed up across the arterial.

Meanwhile, two incidents created major delays on the Port Mann Bridge. There was a collision at the east end of the bridge in the HOV lane heading west.

There was a second crash at the west end of the bridge in the HOV lane heading west. While both have cleared, Highway 1 is jammed from 176 Street.

On Highway 99, there was a crash at the mouth of the Massey Tunnel heading south involving a semi-truck. Due to this, the counterflow was pulled early, creating a massive backup into Delta.
