Mission shooting leads police to massive drug bust

A shooting in Mission on Friday has led to a large fentanyl bust, the RCMP says.

Mounties say they were called to the area of Stave Lake Road near Carlson Road after reports of gunshots in the “early morning hours.”

Officers found shell casings on arrival, which prompted the RCMP to obtain a warrant to search the property, Mounties say.

Corp. Harrison Morh says a “large-scale operating fentanyl lab” was found inside a storage building and several shipping containers. Police then spent “several days” at the property collecting evidence.

“Approximately 25 kilograms of pure fentanyl were seized,” Morh said Thursday, adding another “three kilograms of fentanyl already cut for street distribution” were also found.

Police estimate that the amount of fentanyl equates to about 2.5 million doses of a “street-level product.”

Another 2,000 litres of chemicals, 6,000 litres of hazardous chemical waste, along with more precursor materials to make fentanyl were also found on the property.

“The seizure of this Fentanyl, and the dismantling of this drug lab to prevent further production, will have a significant impact on the people that profit from the harm this drug causes in our communities,” said Insp. Ted Lewko, officer in charge.  “We hope that the residents in the area of the lab will also feel safer knowing that this facility has been shut down.”

Police say no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this property, or who suspects there is a drug lab close to their home, is being asked to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
